Irena was our financial adviser back in January 1996. We had recently retired and left city life to live on Mornington Peninsula. What a fortunate day it was for us when we randomly chose Peninsula Business and Taxation Centre to help with our “golden handshake” and super lump sum. During an early consultation I remember Irena seriously telling us ‘There won’t be any more overseas trips’ (we both love travelling), but many trips later due to careful investing and the right advice, I’m glad to say those words have not come true. Now we live in the Goulburn Valley and modern technology makes it easy to keep in touch, Irena is regularly keeping up with the latest computers, programs and support teams, etc. so it is not necessary for an office visit, though we always enjoy calling in to Mt. Eliza. The cheerful warmth and optimistic outlook from Irena and her staff can soon make a gloomy financial problem seem not so important. She is our real life financial – either; guru, oracle or wizard – you choose the right word!!

I first met Irena Butler, of Peninsula Taxation and Business Centre, when I was facing imminent retrenchment and desperately seeking some sound financial advice. My future was uncertain.I was contemplating setting up my own business and needed to roll over my superannuation. All this happened in late 1995 and Irena has been my financial advisor and friend ever since that time. I remember her first words of advice all those years ago, or something to this effect:“ Go and get yourself a an invoice book and go for it! Keep all your receipts, a log book for the car and we’ll sort the rest out further down the track”. Well, I’m still in business eleven years later. I’ve had some “dramas” with the ATO (hasn’t everybody?), which Irena has helped me to sort out. She has helped me adopt tax effective strategies for both my private and company situations.

Whenever I contemplate any major financial decision I always seek Irena’s willing opinion. Thank god she is always there at BAS time to help me sort out the finer details. On top of all that, we have shared some good times and bad times with both our families and come through it all OK. Irena is a friendly and caring person who will tell you what she really thinks about something and I value this quality. Sometimes it does us both great benefit, to sit back and have a good ‘belly laugh’ together, before moving on to more serious or mundane things.

I was recommended to PTBC by a fellow worker, he had been a client of PTBC for several years. I made an appointment to see Irena, we discussed my situation and I went home to think about it. Two years later I came back again and then decided to take the advice given. I was sick with emotion. I felt uncomfortable with change. What I was doing was not working and I was afraid that this would not work either. It is several years later, I have gone through the down turn. I feel comfortable now.

We talk about the strategy, work out what we need to do and just do it. I do not put myself in the situation of needing to worry. I know things go up and they go down, that is the nature of the beast. I am working toward a goal, I know what I want and I can see that I as we keep the goal in mind we are getting there. I am using the income my business produces to fund my living and creating funds towards my retirement.

I have been a client of PTBC since 1991, I first came to get my tax done and stayed. I can speak to the team at PTBC when I need to. We discuss what needs to be done and the time frame involved. I know where I stand because we get together every three months. I do not need to worry in between times. Tax time is not a long drawn out process, the figures are done during the year, so all we need to do in June is look at the situation and make any adjustments necessary. This works for me.
